Principal coal mining in Arkansas has been located in Sebastian County, which accounts for fifty-five percent of total production between 1880 and 1976. The Coal Miner’s Memorial honors those who worked in the county’s mines. The site features a statue of former miner and mine owner George “Bud” Lewis with mining equipment. Behind him is a coal cart from a local mine. Names of miners in the Sebastian County area are engraved on granite markers at the site.
